Local Network and IIS 5.0

can't parse pages from IIS using local intranet

I need help configuring IIS to parse web pages over the local intranet. I pulled two PC's together to develop an ASP application for work. I don't use IIS often so I am a little lost in it. I can get the local host to parse the pages fine. But when I try to get it off the network I keep getting a "Server not Responding" error. Is this a problem with the "other" PC. I am running Win2K on the IIS pc and Win98 on the other. They have an active connection. I can type the name of the hard drive of the main pc in the IE URL and "see" it's contents. However, when I type in the name of the PC on the network, with or without, the name of the application, I get a server not responding error. Is this a Win98 problem, Win2K problem, or a IE problem on the second PC?

Thanks,

The first test is to see if the two machines are talking to each other. Open a DOS window and type:

ping machinename

If this works, then that machine is present on the local intranet. If it doesn't, you have other problems. The most likely is that you don't have the TCP/IP network drivers installed correctly.

Let us know what happens and we'll take it from there.

I tried the "ping" command and I can ping the win98 pc from the win2K machine no problem, but I can't ping the win2K machine from the win98 machine. The only thing I can figure is that the win98 machine isn't peer-peer network friendly. I can view all resources and printers and the such from either machine to the network so I am assuming that the two machines are on talking terms. The win98 pc wants me to open an active connection to use IE. Problem is that only the win2K pc has a modem. As far as sharing resources the win98 machine is fine, but I am using it to view asp pages in diferent environments.
I finally gave up and uninstalled win98 and installed win2K. All seems to work ok now. I can get to the pages I want and I can use the "internet share" feature to connect to the internet via the network on the machine without the modem. I would like to use win98 and win95 pc's to view my pages because they have different versions of IE and Netscape. I want to make pages that will work with any version, but I guess that isn't possible unless I feed the Microsoft account for Server 2000. I just don't have that kind of excess cash lying around just yet.
Thanks for the reply,
