Fastclick banner spreading virus dropper (!)

Today, the Fastclick ad network started distributing a 468x60 banner from the company that contained the signature of a dropper called No clue if it was the actual dropper or just some unfortunate piece of similar code, but it triggered the virus alerts on many of our visitors' computers and caused quite a stir. Anyone else had this "pleasure"?

Afak as I know the banner is still available via Fastclick's control panel. Click on "View" but don't forget to turn your Virus protection to ON.

Actually I thought that this is a true scandal - kinda surprised that nobody seems to be interested. Am I the only one using Fastclick?

Not with Fastclick, but I've seen some Popuptraffic pops that make my NAV go a little beserk.

Yosmc, perhaps try the GeekVillage forums. They often have Fastclick representatives pop in over there who would likely look at your complaint.

Thanks for the suggestion, Mike, will do. I shot them a quick "Yikes!" type of message on Friday but it seems like nobody ever read it.

I've contacted Fast Click before about banner ads I thought were improperly labeled and misleading in regards to aspects related to the publisher and their website. I got a response back but it was clear they only cared about turning a buck from the advertiser and not what was fair to the publisher. They probably didn't reply to you because they want to pretend the problem you identified doesn't exist. Probably the advertiser's check had already cleared.

I hope they fixed the problem by now. Do you still found virus on Fastclick banners?

No it took them 3 or 4 days to remove it, but now it's gone. Interestingly, although I haven't been impolite, they refuse to communicate about it. Not a good policy imho.
