How are you marketing petsmart and dog toys programs? I think you will find that simply put up banners on a site even if it related to your site still will not preform well.
The key is to create pages that rank well in the search engines for certain products and then fit these pages well into your site.
Does your "dog" site have a shopping seciton within it. This is a great way to start converting surfers as you will find when you create new pages you will draw a new visitor base that is intrested in the products each page offers.
Note that you need to get very spasific when it comes to product pages ... simply create a "shopping page" will not do. Instead create a page for:
dog treats
dog medications
dog supplies
dog toys
ect ...
This way each page can then be create for both you website visitors as well as search engines to rank well for those given products. I think this approach will help you greatly.

Thanks for the reply.
I have a site that offers dog collars and i get a lot of traffic from the ppc's for dog/species related keywords.
I was looking for other products/affiliate programs to market. Since I have the traffic, why not offer more than just collars, right?
But, I like your idea of building category/product specific pages and then promoting that way. I was just looking to see if anyone had any success with a pet-related affiliate program that I may not have found, other than the ones I mentioned.
Thanks for your input!

i have good coversation rates with amazon's pet related books and stuff. Since my site is currently targeting more the non english market, i don't have very much experience with us/en affiliates related to dogs / pets. However, one thing i know for sure (after 4 months of participation) unfortunately petlinkexchange doesn't work for me at all. Alltough i bring them a lot of targeted imposure, the income is more than poor.
As chef brian said: build content pages related to the various thopics / products. The better the themeing is, the better the conversion will be - no matter what program(s) you use.
My first problem is: i don't trust the payments and trackings of any program other than amazon. Amazon to me seems to be very, very serious and honest with money things - the querterly payments proof my feeling.
This said, i'm currently working on adding my own online store with a couple of very exclusive products - better than wasting clicks and clicks to affiliates that don't convert or don't get cashed.
