I have set up some banners and text links to some affiliate programs (pharmacy, dating, and posters), but I have only gotten $35 in sales from the affiliate program with a site that sells posters.
Judging by the posters that they bought, and the traffic that each poster on my site got, the traffic probably consists mainly of male college students.
I would really like to take advantage of this traffic. I know that most guys in college do not have much money, so I am wondering which affiliate programs (and which product categories) to go with that will be the most profitable, and have the most amount of sales, as I will definitely have to deal in volume in order to make any kind of decent money with this traffic.
And I do have high aspirations. I have been reading about affiliates making upwards of $40,000 to $50,000 per month. I want to pass that. I realize that these guys have a lot of sites and a lot of cash to advertise, but I am sure that they started small as well.
Some of you may call me a dreamer, but I know that people are actually doing it. So it is possible.
Now I know that I most likely will not even come close to those figures with a college crowd, but I have to start somewhere.
Anyway, could some of you give me some ideas as to which affiliate programs (specifically) would be the most profitable with this demographic? And which products? I'd appreciate it.

ecampus.com has an affiliate program and even though it doesn't always have the lowest prices around, it tries very hard to be a college-oriented site.
My site offers free college humor. Apparently, it was too much for ecampus, as they rejected my application.
How long has the link been generating traffic?
Since mid January (my 1st post of this thread was posted the day after it went live).

Great! You have me beat. I make about half that. What kind of site do you have? What kind of traffic do you get (demographics and how many uniques)?
I have posters from allposters.com featured on every page. I am only getting about 1500 uniques per day nowadays as the traffic has died down on account of my not being able to afford more bandwidth, and hence, not being able to put up new content (no reason for them to come back). I also have my efforts intensely concentrated on another project.
I have been putting up new content here and there, but in the beginning, I was updating it every day and increasing my traffic substantially.
I was putting up some video content, and that was generating hella traffic, but it was killing my bandwidth, so I had to take them down.
and I did ask Alposters.com just after Xmas about back about seasonality.They reckon AUgust and December are their peak months.
The August one being college kids starting a new year and
wanting something for their walls.So don't neglect the posters.
Good point. As I just stated, allposters.com is the most prevalent affiliate on my site, and, consequently, is generating the most revenue, which is not that much.
It's a challenge to get poor college students to purchase something when all they are looking for is a free laugh.
If your go to Allposters.com or art.com and go to the college sections then the first page is highly to be their best sellers, so it will give you some ideas.
I did that. I tend to do that by second nature as I want to promote the items that sell the most so I make the most amount of cash.
I sent a site 288 visitors and got pad $139 for it. I guess it really just matters what industry your in and how targetted your traffic is. What kind of money are you making off affiliate programs?
Not making much at all. But again, I have slowed down my efforts considerably, because another project that I am working on is starting to take off.
Since mid-Jan., have made $102.75 from Allposters.com, which is the most prevalent affiliate on my site.
Inboxcash.com is a site where you are supposed to get paid when you respond to email advertisements. You also get paid $10 every time someone signs up under you, but you don't get that commission until the first time that person collects a commission of $50 or over from looking and responding to email offers. But I don't see that happening as many times, you actually have to sign up for things, and I just see college students getting impatient with that real quick. I have earned $860 for signing up 86 people, but that is pretty much monopoly money to me, as I don't see me ever seeing that money on account of the college students not following thru with the deal.
And from CJ.com, I have earned a whopping $11.37. $5 from an ebay signup, and the rest from purchases at collegegear.com.

I run a 100% free dating site, and i put up links to friendfinder.com I get $2.00 for every girl that signs up free and a $1.00 for every guy. needless to say my traffic is highly targeted. My site is simple and easy to use, 20% of people coming to the site signup and create profiles. So anyways people are going to leave my site at some point in time, so i put the banners in places where they are most likely to leave the site. I also had one with amazon, but i got a big fat 0 there. I guess its just a matter of experimenting, try different programs/banners and see what works.

Deep Affiliate links to magazines possible sellers : snowboarding,maxim,penthouse,stuff........
I already have an affiliate that sells magazines like the ones you mentioned for only $3.95 per year, and it is not doing well at all.
