Gigabot - unusual activity anyone?

He's been a busy little fella..

In a rather unprompted fashion, Gigabot/1.0 appeared to visit our main site eight times yesterday, crawling the complete set of nine(!) pages each time it did so.

The only time we've seen this fella before was when we added the main URL several months ago, so this was a bit of a surprise - especially the repeated crawling.

Has anyone else seen anything similar, or was this just some strange quirk?

R.

Hi guyz,

Where is the submission for Gigabot, just visited their site just now and can't seem to find any 'Add site' link!

Also do they not list travel related websites?

Cheers Craig,

Never thought about that, I just assumed that it would be within plain view on their site!

Thx,

Well I had to search 'Yahoo' for this 'Google' thing to see what you meant lol ;-)

Thx also Tor.

Nice to see the spider out and about. Myself, I'm anxiously awaiting more sites / pages getting included, cause I wanna see if their syndication to IxQuick helps my traffic numbers.

Or gigablast.com, too. :) More free traffic = never a bad thing. lol.

Excellent to see their Database increasing - seems to have been around 150 million pages for quite a while (couple of months I'd guess) but at the moment they are up to 169,421,248 pages and growing by the minute again. Sometimes they seem to take the add-url facility down when they aren't adding sites.

I'd love to Gigablast become one of the big players (more baskets to keep our eggs in rather than just mainly relying on the Google and Inktomi baskets, nice as Google and Ink are).

Prompted by this thread, I took a look and see that they've cleaned out some old pages that have persisted for months. The engine is constantly getting better, but what a huge project for one guy to take on. I'd really love to see Matt make this a big success. I'm wondering... is he doing it all alone, or does he have some help?

I think he is doing it all alone. Perhaps he's reading this & would like to share some insight?

Ever notice how every search engine that we discuss here ends up reading regularly?

Makes me wonder what they think of all this, sometimes. I know if it was a group of marketer's discussing how to best use me or my business, I'd be paying avid attention.

That Gigaboost thing sure was slick. Though, didn't Brett post something about an idea like that back a year or more ago?

Can't find the thread at the moment...
