On Gigablast's homepage you will find a link to guinea pig [gigablast.com] page where they note that they are seeking webmasters that are willing to impliment their search service for free on their website.

Nice find. That actually sounds like it could be a very powerful thing for people looking for a free search service.

Might have to give it a whirl, if I can get involved.

Well, I don't think I am allowed to post the url but SearchHippo has been providing this in it's webservices area (and several other interesting tidbits) for over a year now with sample code and implementations to make it real nice and easy. No signups or anything - everything you need is right there and ready to go.

SearchHippo violates robots.txt. I wouldn't trust it for my site searches.

My advice: SetEnvIfNoCase User-Agent searchhippo ban

Hm. I reckon there have been a few issues in the past but most of that should be cleaned up by now. The only exception there would be anything in ODP is indexed as is, without regard to robots.txt.

> Violates robots.txt

I just looked up my site on Gigablast.

Apparently they ignore/violate robots.txt also.
