I have a keyword that is only used in my site. If I am on a peticular search engine it brings up my site. I used it on msn and my site came up.

My question is:

I have no looksmart listing, inktomi, direct hit, fast, or oveture listing (I just checked). Where is msn pulling this information? It says web pages above my listing.

If it says "web pages" then it is an Inktomi listing. Inktomi does index non paying sites...

Where can I do a pure inktomi search?

Not what I am getting at msn. This is something else, not inktomi.

MSN uses these results:

- Overture for "sponsered listings"
- Looksmart for "directory matches"
- Inktomi for "web page matches"

They are displayed in this order as well

if you are coming up in the pure search then that could still be where the listing is coming from. The results are not necessarily the same on msn and sometimes are extremely different. Maybe when msn applies their algo you pop out better. not sure

I am telling you I have a keyword that only brings back my site and sites that link to me. Msn search brings back 2 items. Pure inktomi brings back 1 that is not either of the msn listings. Looksmart brings back zilch and oveture brings nothing too. If I were in msn directory it would call it a directory match. There is something else here. I can sticky you the keyword if your interested.

I am utterly stumped, I've looked at every engine I can think of and you really are nowhere. That msn listing is the only one I can find and it isn't coming from any of the msn feeders that I know of. I'll keep looking but unless anyone knows of other msn feeders we haven't mentioned yet I don't know where else to look.

aol.co.uk's search shows the same listing, but aol.com shows ink. This is really bizaar!! maybe its just a new ink database.

CORRECTION!!! THESE ARE NOT DMOZ RESULTS AS SUCH!!! I just double checked a certain keyphrase. These are filtered Google results! They match BBCi's results!

Is this MSN.com or MSN.co.uk? Has Google released a statement yet?

I'm not seeing anything. What keywords are you using? Are you in the US or UK.

I'm seeing similar results but in no way would I say they were the same.

I am seeing the same results at both msn.com and msn.co.uk. aol.co.uk has the same msn results but aol.com does not. My keyword is the site in my profile without the www. and the .com. if you use those three words stuffed together you will see different results.

These are not google or dmoz results its either a new inktomi build or something I have never seen.

That what I said, I think they are being filtered for MSN somehow.

Right. My site's been indexed by Inktomi, although I never paid for it.

Hey hey hey, wait a minute! My site actually jumped from #12 to #3 on MSN Search for one of my keyphrases, but I want to be careful... Please post a sample search URL so we can verify.

If you're right, this is going to be bigger than the AOL partnership news. (Created a new thread in the Google forum [webmasterworld.com]).

Do a search for "superoffice" in lowercase (without the quotes).

OK.. I got an email on May 14th from ineedhits saying that Inktomi would be upgrading their servers, which would be finished by the 16th, and that refreshes would go on as usual, but there wouldn't be "reports" of the refreshes until the 16th.

This is new results as of wednesday of last week. One of the sites I got a link from last wednesday. I don't think its google or dmoz unless its a new google build with heavy msn algo.

Marcia, the thing is, is that description is only found via ODP. Except, the results differ, but are similar to filtered Google results when you remove certain foreign language pages. So 100% it is using either ODP or Google, but that is an ODP description.
