Infospace will take over the Excite.com portal from Excite@Home. The portal lives on, but the Excite search engine does not. The new Excite.com will be powered by the Dogpile metasearch engine and LookSmart.

(See press release under Infospace.com and URL in member profile)

Sorry about the Infoseek in the headline. I am, unfortunately, unable to make it go away :) That being said, Infoseek is also quite dead, now that Fast has replaced Infoseek.de as the search engine provider for the German ISP and portal T-Online.

It is said to see old working horses like the Excite and Infoseek search engines go away. On the other hand, we may now concentrate on the players that really count: Google and Fast.

It has taken an hour to turn off all FindWhat accounts while we decide what effect this will have on the traffic that came from top of Excite listing.

anyone have any stats to help us out here?

Sure wish we had a FindWhatGuy/Gal in here :)

press release

"... Thus far in Q4, Excite.com has
represented less than 10% of our
revenue and year to date Excite.com
has accounted for less than 6% of
our total revenue ...."
