Hi wypbj,

Welcome to WebmasterWorld! I hope you find what you are looking for here, please join in the discussions.

Hotbot does not have it's own database. Rather they are powered by Inktomi who do not have their own search engine but gather information and supply it to a number of Search Engines.

Inktomi now runs as a Pay For Inclusion database so your chances of getting a free entry for a new site are pretty slim. Having said that there has been some inclusion of free entries lately but it seems to be only for well established and "highly recognized" sites.

You can read more information in the Pay For Spidering Engines [webmasterworld.com] forum.

Thanks. i found the info from [hotbot.lycos.com...]

Please note: This form will add sites only to the Inktomi Web-page database, HotBot's search partner. To add your site to the HotBot Directory, please go to HotBot's homepage, choose a subject area that appropriately categorizes your site, and click on the Submit a Site link at the bottom of the Site Recommendations section. You may have to drill down to a specific subcategory to submit your site.

i mean can my website be added to hotbot from this page?

thanks.

Yes it can be added from the addurl page you posted, but as Woz pointed out, you are submitting to Inktomi, in time you will show up in HotBot and other Inktomi powered engines. But the chances of showing up are slim, if you want more immediate inclusion, check out the pay for inclusion link in Woz's post.

wypbj, welcome to the board.

You can try with HotBot, but the general consensus is that it's almost impossible to get into the Inktomi database without paying. Go ahead and submit, but in the meantime if its not feasible to pay for inclusion, do your best to get some inbound links from as many "quality" sites as you can that are already in their database, in hopes that they'll find you through a link.

Hotbot wasn't even including my paid pages, which isn't much of a loss since they really don't drive any traffic, from my personal experience. They may for others, but I've not heard of it.

With Inktomi, it's pretty much "Pay or Pray." However, I have to say that a decent Ink listing with MSN and AOL can convert better than an even better Google listing for certain products; it depends on what it is.

I think that HOTBOT results varies depending on how many "return results" you set when searching.

If you set more than the default 10 results you will get Pure Inktomy results.

If you leave the settiing to 10 results, the first (about 10) results are from Directhit and results from 11 to infinite are from Inktomi pure results from 10 to infinite; the first 10 results replace Inktomi results!

It means that leaving the default "return results" to 10 .AND. if you are in the first 10 positions in Inktomi, probably you will not show in the first Hot Bot results!!

The Directory listing in HOTBOT is Open Directory (DMOZ.ORG).
