So now Excite Japan is a combination of the LookSmart directory and the Google index. Given that it looks like Overture in coming soon to Japan, I wonder if Excite will be the first place their results start to appear...

WiseNut Japan still has a long way to go to begin threatening Google Japan though. Google currently has all the major portals Yahoo! Japan, @nifty, BIGLOBE, AllAbout Japan, and now Excite Japan... I wish WiseNut well, but it's still an uphill fight for them.

Bill i agree with you, but WiseNut's algo is one of a kind and it will be very intressting to see there new db, with fresh spidered sites, i am really looking forward to it. Because right now you cannot really compare the SERP between WiseNut and Google, because the WiseNut db is to old, but when it comes i will test it over and over again and see if i get better SERP there, and if i do i think it's a beginning to some competetion for google on the Jp market.
