Canadian and French language search engines

I got a hit for backgrounds from this search engine:

[toile.com...]

I can't imagine how it happened, because it won't do an English language search. It seemed to redirect when I clicked on the link in the stats.

Who powers them, and where would their results come from?

Is there any definitive list or resource to find popular Canadian and French language search engines? Would there be occasion when it would be worth promoting through those?

Toile du Quebec provides filtered results from Google. Their three search options are: a) Web Québecoise (Québec web pages, default) b) Web francophone (French language pages) and c) Tout le web (all of the web - no filter, same ranking, any language - even English, YES!!!).

If I may say so, WebmasterWorld has an excellent resource on French engines right here [webmasterworld.com].

Any language with as big an online population as France and French Canada is definitely worth promoting to, but you need pages in French for that. Oui madame, c'est vrai!
