Mamma Collection - another paid directory

I just learned about the Mamma Collection -- a paid inclusion directory being built by the Mamma metasearch people. The idea seems to be folding directory sites into the SERPS on Mamma searches.

The payment model ($69 for two day service or $29 for eight weeks) is scaled down from the Yahoo/LookSmart level -- appropriate for the kind of traffic volume we might expect. Then I read further and understood that there also will be an annual fee of $20.

Is anyone giving this a try? Does the money seem to be in line with the potential traffic?

The search engine is:

When you click on the link to the Momma Collection you see by the domain name that the network Mamma belongs to involves whatuseek .com.

Directory submisson page:

I see a regular trickle of mamma referrals on several sites, and was wondering what this engine and network looks like to others. Especially wondering if the investment in a directory listing seems sensible.

I've also had a trickle of traffic and to see if it is worthwhile for any clients have done a submit for the $60. I'll let you know if I'll recommend this service (or not) after a couple of weeks. Unlike normal submissions for directories you can specify keywords to be found under - we'll see if it works!

Well, I'm pleasantly surprised! The listings appear to work quite well with only a few glitches. On the first page for 'search engine optimization' (or optimisation) plus a few strange listings for things like 'search engine' and 'search' (why people type these things in I don't know). In traffic terms? A few decent referals a day and some rubbish due to their term matching - much better than some other paid listings I've tried and a lot more cost effective than my PPC listings for the same terms.

So, bottom line is I'll try it with a few clients. It seems to work for me and hopefully will for them. The entry of your own key phrases without PPC is the nice thing about this paid model. Just hope not too many people notice it!

Thanks for the report. It sounds encouraging and I'll probably test the waters myself soon.

I know of a few people who have sworn by Mamma for search results for a while. Mamma's been quietly doing what they do and who knows, maybe they'll be survivors.

I looked up a few things in mamma, and what do you know, it seems I could do to learn a few things about their engine.

It's a meta, and it seems that they are diversifying quickly enough through diverse revenue streams, that I am inclinded to agree with Tedster: maybe they will be survivors. Have to say, I like the search results page, too. Very clean looking.

Mamma has been a small, but dependable traffic producer for me over the last year even though I have not bid on any terms. It's not in the range of dogpile, but I'd have to agree that it's worth risking a few dollars on. I suspect that the demographics are similar to NBCi, more of a general audience and probably not so good for geek markets.
