How to get spidered by Excite and Hot Bot?

I have a ton of pages that have not been...

I have a bunch of pages that have been spidered by many search engines but not excite or hot bot. Hot bot and Inktomi share some results right (so maybe I don't have to worry to much about this one)? But I am worried about excite because none of my pages are listed in looksmart (nor are they likely to be).

Do you think if I just submit a few of the sites that the spiders will crawl all of them? Where should I submit to?

At the very bottom of this page [excite.com...] is a text link that allows you to submit to Excite for free. Just submit the home page and make sure you link out to the rest of the pages in some fashion. I got domains in on the last crawl by doing this.

When did you have architect spider crawl your site last when they actually made a note of it and updated? I've seen plenty of crawls the last 6 months or so, but only one update which occurred approximately 3 weeks ago.

Ok, I just found out that I'm #1 for a 3 key word phrase.
but instead of typing in: get me traffic
they used: "get me traffic"

Yes, the quotes really made the difference.

cause I get a whole different list if I don't use the quotes.

Now on my page, I have "get me traffic" occuring only 1 time on my page. and of course I didn't any of the individual words in my meta tag but I have 2 of the 3 words all over my page.

Can anyone say why I would have this page #1 if I use "get me traffic"? I am so very unsure about what is happening here and I can not piece it together.

I almost thought I had a page that I could use but I am, well, clueless about how this got scored.

I think Excite is not that Exciting when they rank my page #1 for something that I never tried to get ranked. Even worse when the person used " "

Hi, just found this topic as I'm thinking how to get listed in Excite.
I've seen the following URL:
[excite.com...] for a dozen of times but it doesn't work anymore :)
So...no chances to get listed in excite for free?

Also, I found here that looksmart feeds excite.
Looksmart offers basic submission that costs $149 - is it the cheapest option?
No free submission there?

Tay, I'm afraid you've pulled up a very old thread. Excite has since been discontinued, and there's no longer any submission. The link to submit there now goes to Overture for PPC.

No cheaper for Looksmart, but non-commercial sites can be submitted to Zeal.

Perhaps this is another stupid Q but...if we pay for the placement in Looksmart, will it get us listed in Excite as well? (or the only way is the one you mentioned - Overture and PPC?)

Personally I don't care that much about Excite but i was given the task to find out about getting listed there :)

Tay, you'll have to tell whoever wants to know that it's not really a current option. Do a site search (top left) for Excite and you'll find info on them to pass along. Getting listed in Excite is a thing of the past.

There's some good information in the Search Engine Submission [webmasterworld.com] forum. Some posts a couple of months back had all the current information on who to submit to.

We had a site to go live in December 2001. Excite now lists it under several phrases like botanical formulary in top ten. It is still possible to be in Excite with basic SEO strategies. The listing is significant since it is in the same range as botanical.com, and is a much smaller company. Excite listings can still be manipulated. Too - we have not paid any submission fees to Looksmart. There are quite a few new Looksmart listings up within the past few months for sites that have been newly submitted, but not under paid submission. We have found that paying for moderately competitive phrases or industries is still not mandated.

seofan, there have been some changes, one with HotBot only recently. Some of what's here is a bit outdated, so we'll lock this thread for now and start a new one with a bit of an update.

Thanks for sharing about Looksmart. A lot of people have many questions about LS, it would be good to have some more information.
