Is there such a thing as a GOOD Canadian Search Engine?

Come on Canadians, help a transplant out

I moved to Canada almost a year ago and I can't BEGIN to tell you how frustrated I am with the "big boys" Canadian counterparts. I search webpages in Canada, yet am still presented with tons of American stores.

I want an engine that will show me the mass majority of Canadian stores/websites located IN Canada. I do not want to pay duty on my purchases. I do not want to pay crazy shipping fees to American companies to ship to me Internationally (not that even one third of the results on the big boys .ca's even SHIP to Canada).

There's this whole big ass country here and I guess I just can't fathom that there isn't a single search engine serving them (properly). So, I'm taking it I must be missing something having not been privvy to Canadian advertising the last few years?

There used to be one called canada.com which was powered by Inktomi results and all Canadian sites were flagged. The search results also favoured Canadian sites. However, back in 1999/2000 when Ink got hammered by spammers, canada.com began to flag as a search engine.

It used to be that one of the fastest ways to get listed on any of the search engines was to submit your site to canada.com ... it was great!

Unfortunately, it dropped the whole search engine concept soon after the INK disaster. Now, canada.com is some sort of portal but the search results (powered by Google) are really strange and very limited.

Too bad. I too think there should be a Canadian Search engine ... so how come there isn't one?

I've sent you a sticky as well. Unless you're doing competitive research, then please ignore my mail :).

The other issue I think in all of this is that while Canadians are very wired personally, I believe that Canadian businesses lag far behind Americans when it comes to the web.
