Did anyone catch this on "the OC" yesterday?

Dad, she's in high school. If you want to hear from Lindsay, you have to call her. Uh, you were right. Caleb Nichol is not a good Guy. Why, why happened? Did he call you? No, but I A9.com'd him last night, and according to the O.C. Weekly, he's pretty much everything that's wrong with Western civilization, all wrapped up in one Guy.

Amazon insists they didn't pay for it (yeah right, you mean in cash, maybe stock options? So not believable - because saying "A9" is so natural and everyone knows what the heck you are talking about? WebmasterWorld doesn't even have a seperate forum (yet?) for Amazon. They even left ".com" on there in the dialog, sheesh!

I think "Googled" was first used on Buffy and it was so much more natural and believable.

well it's possible. maybe they wanted to sound ultra elite.

either way, a9 has no future.

I paused the TV in amazement when I saw/heard that.

I still don't know if it was just the script writer showing his love of all things search and being "cool" or bad product placement.

If they are going to use A9, they could have said "I A9'd him last night" without the .com
 now that will be a catchy, turn-head phrase you'd remember, right? Maybe that was the original idea.

I could have seen them saying they used Yahoo instead of Google, maybe even MSN, but where on earth did they get the motivation to use "A9" if it wasn't paid for?

Perhaps the writer owned stock? ;)

Did you speak or correspond with someone at Amazon?

I watched that episode and didn't really think too much of it. Unlike some other product placements I hardly noticed it. Don't know if the "The OC" has anything to do with it but their alexa ranking seems to have spiked the day the show aired.

Udi Manber (head of A9) has told several news outlets over the past few days they didn't pay for it and didn't know it was going to air.
