Hi,

Moderator: I am honestly not trying self promote my site.

My orginal idea when starting creating a meta search enigne (Veoda) was to create the most advanced search around. But it didn't work like that because i soon ran out of money so i had to concentrate on the pay per click side.

But now Veoda's making enough i am going back to my original plans to create the best search possible. But i've run out of ideas and i would appreciate it if anyone at webmasterworld can help me.

Here are my ideas:

  • Advanced preferences - Themed templates or allow users to upload their own html header
  • Kartoo type interface - similiar but more functional (optional)
  • Search engine selection - System selects specialised search engines based on the users query.
  • Vivisimo style clustering - the hardest to do
  • Search history - similiar to A9 and/or Eurekster
  • Collect contact information from sites and display it next to results

Please if you have any other ideas post them

image search based on a visual match to input rather than image search via title ..

example ...if I wanted to see who was ripping off my images I could upload/cut and paste a thumbnail or whatever and it would go find ...with percentage relevance parameters that could be set for color shape file sizez etc ...

see what i'm getting at ...it's like fingerprint matching or the progs that search your drive for duplicate images ..
I'd pay for this ..so would millions of others ...

Ok i see what you mean, i think it would be very hard to acheive but could be possible.

Also i think Veoda would have to start building it's own index to do that and i don't think i would be able to compete with the likes of google and altavista image search

    Thanks

    Theirs don't do this

With their dumb model ..If I call my pic of an orange " apple" they will return it as a "result" to a search for "apple" even tho it obviuosly is wrong ...strangely enough they have not thought how to analyse the content of the page to see if I was mistitling my images ..

As I said the apps exist on desktop ..that match pixel placement ..but not on the web ..simple enough technology mainly a matter of data mining and storage...

however you might be able to "interface" with them in order to acheive it?

To see if someone is stealing your images what the search could do is let you upload the image you want to search for and then the program gets the exact file size and maybe the first lines of code from the file and tries to find a match to that.

Those ideas of image search are "nice" for .00001% of the demographics though and won't lead you to any revenue generation.

    Ok thanks for your input.

I have created a beta version of Veoda's new search at [veoda.com...] it's nowhere near complete but any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

A couple of things - you might want to fix the link above (extra comma), and I guess I'm right in thinking that the search will only work with javascript enabled? Pretty off-putting for me personally.

I note your difficulty of getting vivisimo type of text clustering search result, so if you want it cheap(or even at no cost) and still give you quality cluster titles, check out Accumo Classifier: [accumo.com...]

I must admit this is a commercial offer since i am from Accumo, but this post will be helpful for anyone interested to look into alternative clustering solution rather than just Vivisimo.
