I did a search here via (G) and could not find anything similar, of course I didn’t go thru all 4,**** pages either, so I’ll post just for grins because I know if someone has already posted something similar, someone will point me in the correct direction.

Since the (G) FL update fiasco, I’ve been seeing a lot of companies that seem to be doing their own search engines on their intranets. I see unknown bots from several Fortune 500 companies that the REFER then comes from their intranets. I’ve also seen REFER from intranets like blah.blah.com/reflibrary/kw/blah.html.

Is it possible companies fed up with the search engines and now brewing their own SE’s, perhaps in a directory type deal because of spam, spyware, and bad SERPs?

I do know of a few companies that manage their own searches for controlling the Internet. Employees can search only from the company search engine and can't access Google, Yahoo, etc. The only documents that get returned are ones deemed "business OK"

Although I would think that companies like this would be buying directories from Yahoo or using ODP or something, not actually spidering sites themselves.

You may be missing my point. If the companies are not happy with the SERPs, why would they purchase a directory from the SE's they aren't happy with?

Who said they were unhappy with the other search engines? I'm just saying the companies I know of that are doing it are doing it for control purposes. The timing could just be coincidental ... employees wasting time on the Internet is at an all-time high.

Yea. I'm thinking too many bad SERPs so if they manufacture electronics, you would see suppliers to the electronics industry and industry information sites listed, but not photo or music sites, etc.
