I had seen the odd post about the MSN bot but it seems to be quite real. Here is the user agent from today:

"msnbot/0.11 (+http://search.msn.com/msnbot.htm)"

Maybe someday there will need to be a category for this bot? Who knows... a new bot might be nice.

The history of Microsoft bots goes back quite a few months and threads. Back in April of last year, when carfac was the first to decry: "Someone at Microsoft just got banned! [webmasterworld.com]

Yeah, this bot has morphed a few times [webmasterworld.com]. :)

We've a number one listing in MSN and the MSNbot blitzed our site regularly last year, but I've not noticed a single visit from it this last week.

Anyone noticed a visting pattern.

When it first called, it was real cpu hog.

Just got a few high SERPs on MSN and I've seen it quite a bit lately. I wonder if it's triggered by new sites being added.

Have seen MSNbot on a few of our sites in the last week - never saw it before.

These are brand new sites with a few inbound links.

(To be honest, I'm more interested in AskJeeves/Teoma which hammered one of our sites yest. Definitely never saw that before.....)
