How to get a high Alexa traffic ranking

My site has about 100,000 page views per month.
In less then 5 months, the Alexa traffic ranking for my site went from > 200,000 to < 30,000 (my site is now in the top 30,000).

How did I do that?...

1. I downloaded and installed the Alexa toolbar.

2. I switch the Alexa toolbar off.

3. My site is listed in the Google Directory (Google is #5 in the Alexa traffic ranking).
Every time when I log in to the Internet (at least 3 times a day), I go to the appropriate category in the Google Directory where my site is listed, I switch the Alexa toolbar on and follow the link to my site.

4. I visit a lot of pages on my site and when I leave my site I switch the Alexa toolbar off.

That's all. You can test it by yourself. Your traffic ranking will improve weekly.

BTW: during one week, I didn't do this and guess what... my site dropped out of the Top 100,000 during that time...

Some sites proudly announce that they have a top 100,000 traffic rank in Alexa. My point is that it is easy to get a high traffic rank, so it has little value. That's all.

Yes, I agree. When people start bragging about Alexa rankings, I just say, "Congrats - you successfully installed the Alexa toolbar"

I instaled it on my computer and my sight went from 4,000,000 to 75,000. 25% of my traffic according to Alexa is to a part of my site that is IP restricted to my IP address. I am sure if I spent a little more time on it I could get the 30,000 as well.

I have a friend that has a company that rights computer game reviews and writes game manuals and he says that some game companies won't give them free games to review unless their site is in the top 100,000. Some people give the alexa thing a lot of weight.

I checked my traffic stats for one of my sites on Alexa. Alexa seems to differ from my Webtrends stats by a mere 100%.

Took my site from the nether regions >100,000 to 7000-8000 in about 2 months. Boss thought I was a miracle worker, even after I tried to explain to him that I was in control of the ranking.

Turned off the bar for a week.

If your site is Korean or English and web oriented even more so..

When Microsoft drops IE in 2005 and Google buys Opera and fully integrates the Google advanced toolbar, used by 30% of searchers, amongst others because of their own Hotmail-type service, Google will introduce the blue popularity toolbar based on uniques..

Alexa is a great big joke...

Anyone who takes the Alexa traffic figures as more than a very skewed rough estimate should take a step back and remember the old saying that "there's no such thing as a free lunch"...

I'm not sure I'd trust that piece of spyware even in the off position. Reading the (lack of) privacy disclaimer, Alexa (Amazon) will know where you have tattoos...

I don't find the OP much of a revelation. If you read on Alexa.com about how they determine their rankings, you would have known increased activity to your website by yourself with the Alexa toolbar is going to result in increased rankings... as somebody else implies, the question to ask yourself is: is this good use of your time... does a better Alexa position really mean your site will become more profitable...?

Hmm, i'm on a mac and therefor - again - not suited for toolbar games. I wonder if someone allready started selling "Alexa ranking boost services"? Might be a idea to buy some cheap pc's, hire some students and let them do this kind of job ... ;P

Tried it , now its from 4,000,000 to 900,000 within a week , I want it to go to at least 200,000 , it should within 2 weeks or so...
