1. I downloaded and installed the Alexa toolbar.
2. I switch the Alexa toolbar off.
3. My site is listed in the Google Directory (Google is #5 in the Alexa traffic ranking).
Every time when I log in to the Internet (at least 3 times a day), I go to the appropriate category in the Google Directory where my site is listed, I switch the Alexa toolbar on and follow the link to my site.
4. I visit a lot of pages on my site and when I leave my site I switch the Alexa toolbar off.
That's all. You can test it by yourself. Your traffic ranking will improve weekly.
BTW: during one week, I didn't do this and guess what... my site dropped out of the Top 100,000 during that time...
I have a friend that has a company that rights computer game reviews and writes game manuals and he says that some game companies won't give them free games to review unless their site is in the top 100,000. Some people give the alexa thing a lot of weight.
If your site is Korean or English and web oriented even more so..
When Microsoft drops IE in 2005 and Google buys Opera and fully integrates the Google advanced toolbar, used by 30% of searchers, amongst others because of their own Hotmail-type service, Google will introduce the blue popularity toolbar based on uniques..
I'm not sure I'd trust that piece of spyware even in the off position. Reading the (lack of) privacy disclaimer, Alexa (Amazon) will know where you have tattoos...
