Ixquick > Is a crawler... so?

What about the others?

Alexa uses Google's data, plus some of their own... Don't know about Vivissimo; thought that was a meta-search-engine?

Vivisimo = meta search engine.

Alexa = uses Google results as well as the open directory.

IxQuick = meta search engine as well. You can use Gigablast to get in two of the three, or Google, or Alltheweb. ;) Or even Inktomi.

IxQuick ranks sites according to the number of top ten rankings they have on the sites IxQuick returns. So the way to get into IxQuick is to have a bunch of top 10s for whatever phrase you're querying.

It used to be that IxQuick was a great demo tool for organic optimizing. Now that it no longer returns Google (too expensive), Yahoo, etc, and a lot of the engines it does include are paid results, it's no longer quite the same thing.
