idiot proof scripts needed

I need a couple of scripts for a current project and can't afford to get it wrong. I could do with some pointers to scripts that are tried and tested by forum members (or known to be safe for other reasons)

What I need is:

1/. A script to allow reading, sending and receiving of e-mail from the borwser using the customers POP3 account.

2/. An image database script that has categories, thumbnails, brief description for each image, and allows the customer to post new images from his browser.

not asking much:)

I found some that appear to do the job on Perlcoders and Worldwidecreations - but not sure if these are the best (or cheapest) solutions.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I like browsing through hotscripts.com and cgi.resourceindex.com... They often end up having a lot of the same scripts. but you never know which one will have just the bit you're looking for.

Don't have any experience with those specific functions, or I could be of more help. ;)

I'll second mivox's suggestion of browsing through hotscripts, and also suggest cgi-resources.com. It can be kind of tedious, and the search functions don't seem to work that well, but it usually pays off.

One source for a small number of free scripts is "Matt's Script Archive" - I don't have the URL handy, but a search on that name should pop it up. These seem to be well-tested, reasonably bulletproof scripts for common site functions. Many web hosts use them for providing things like e-mail forms to their users.

For number 2, I'd imagine that auction scripts would be closest to the ideal, with minor modiications. It would actually need to be less complicated. How about trying a search for auction scripts and seeing if any of the sites have something similar but simpler.

I've seen "pic post" scripts here and there... they seem to be mostly targeted at folks wanting to publicly share compromising photos of their female acquaintances, but sounds like the same basic functionality.

Found a script that lets me build an image catalog with catagories and descriptions - all maintained through the browser by my end customer - he can even create his own categories, wonderful stuff.

Basic version (good enough for my job) is free.

4eyes, can it also do text descriptions in addition to the images? It would be for about 600 images that need text descriptions, with about 20-30 a week removed and others replacing them. No shopping cart would be necessary, but it would need to be simple to replace with a simple browser upload.

The free version does thumbnails and large images but only one lot of text - so you either have short text under the thumbnails or long text with the full size image. The paid version does everything you need and more.

It is pretty easy to use, allows you to post images AND create new categories from the browser.
