Site search engine

Any recommendations?

Basically I need a fairly easy to use search engine for a unix based site (with php). I have no need to index complex files such as .pdf or .doc, just the basics. It will have to cope with a small but rising amount of traffic, and a few thousand pages.

I'm not scared about getting my hands dirty, but I'm more of an asp guy, so any massively complex perl scripting could go wrong.

Has anybody got any favourites that they'd suggest? I've got an eye on SWISH-E...

Oh, and by the way, I'd like something free! ;-)
