Hello everyone - this is my first post. I've been watching for a long time, and now it's time to nail my colours to the mast.

Some advice please. I've a popular site (usual story, keen hobby that generates some Google Dollars).

I want to develop it by allowing users to register, select their own password, which allows them access to a series of pages. Can anyone recommend a source for this code/software? There's a lot around, but what works best for you?

In the future I wish to add some forums, and maybe charge for content (PayPal).

Thanks to you all.

I recently implemented a user registration and login system on one of my sites. It's done all in Perl CPAN modules and is fairly simple to implement. You just need access to Perl 5.8.0 or greater, a MySQL database, and CPAN of course. A mod_perl enabled webserver is also the best way to go. In my case, I used HTML::Mason to put it all together and HTML::Template to control the layout.

So, to put it all together for you:
Perl 5.8.6
(And various dependencies)

It may seem like a lot of software to install but these modules will get a lot of the grunt work done for you.
