The thing is: I'm planning to set up a site for an online community. That is, there's a site with lots of cool content and people. I have a sort of encyclopedia set up already, but it's all in static HTML.
I've looked at PHP-Nuke, but it wouldn't work correctly on my Mac OS X server, for unknown reasons. And besides, the code looked quite messy, and since I need to customize some things, it'd be more frustration than fun, methinks.
I had a quick look at eZ publish, but thought it looked a bit too ... I don't know. Maybe it's better than it looks? Can anyone fill me in here? (I need to be able to set up my own database with quite a few tables and possibly some relational stuff too ...)
Then I'm starting to check out Fusebox for PHP and maybe just make it all from scratch. It might be fun. I've found very sparse information on Fusebox online, though...
But if I'm going to do THAT, I'd want to make it as generic and reusable as possible. Which brings me to templates. Anyone know if Fast-Templates (or some other kind of template thing) is possible to combine with Fusebox?
I have to say the idea of making something clean and simple and extensible and customizable and ... and ... it's got tremendous appeal to me. But that'll take time, and getting the site up and running is, in the end, more important. So I'll be happy for any useful tips.
If you have a google toolbar, I myself use that to search the forums. You can do a search for cms. Works like a charm.
But anyway, eZ publish looks like it's up my alley, although it might be troublesome to install on my Mac. I'll have a go at it, at least. If that doesn't work, I'll look into making something myself.
