Ad/Dis advantage of Scripts in cgi-bin

I see some cgi scripts say that the scipt can be put in the cgi-bin or not depending on the server.

What advantages and disadvantages are there in putting a cgi script in the bin or not ? Does it make a difference to anything ?

Well, it depends on the server setup. Some hosts do not allow scripts to run outside cgi-bin ..

Technically it doesn't matter where your script is located.

Thanks DrDoc - so you mean there are no security issues or whatever ? Whether a cgi script is place in the bin or not ? My sever allows for both.

If you are wanting to block your scripts from being spidered it would be better to keep in one folder.
