Greetings all -- first post on this board!

I'm in charge of several non-profit websites that want message boards (kind of like this one) and eCards. Because they're non-profit, looking for free script solutions. My host supports cgi, mySQL and PHP, but not ASP or SQL.

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the info. I've tried phpBB and Phorum, but found them difficult to customize. I need to change up the registration info & user interface; hide users lists from general access; have folks agree to usage terms before joining; etc.

Wondering if PHP is the way to go because there don't appear to be page templates. Or if there's an easier to customize cgi solution out there?

It looks like WebmasterWorld uses cgi to run this board. Is it freeware and how can I get ahold of it?

Also, any ideas for eCard scripts?

T F charles, we use ikonboard if thats any help. We made some changes to the script to customize registration and for different permissions for viewing members etc. It was the most highly configurable we could find,- cgi using either SQL or a database (Berkeley?) Seems there have been some changes at the place that owns the scripts, so not sure of the development track.

I use mwforum

[mawic.de...]

It is well written in perl and have found it relatively easy to make the modifications I have needed.

Looks like Ikoboard is the way to go. Easy setup and excellent interface. Thanks for the tip!

Regarding the software the WebmasterWorld uses - it's basically something that Brett [webmasterworld.com] has built over the course of several years, very customised.

Here is a thread regarding this

so if you can wait ;)

and some regarding BB's in general.

Ps. IkonBoard looks good - I run XMB on one site - no longer in development :(

I'm currently using YaBB on my websites, though I'm about to start looking at others. It seems pretty comprehensive and there's lots of mods available for it.
