Is it true that the index page bears little SEO value?

any page that hasn't been optimised has no SEO value. if the index page is correctly optimised, then it certainly has plenty of SEO value. you will find that most small sites only ever optimise the index page, which is a waste of all the other pages!

In most cases your index page will be the most linked-to so it will be the most valuable one, but you can only optimise it for a few keyphrases, so you're better off optimising other pages for other keyphrases you wish to target!
