Buddy Links

I have a new site that I built to submit to AltaVista. I just signed up for the buddy links program last week. I was wondering if I might be better off waiting till all the
links were in place and pointing my way before I submitted. Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance.

As you can't really tell when/if AV will actually deep crawl and index your site, I'd submit now anyway unless you have lots of time to spare as, e.g., with a non-commercial site.

I've gotten this question a few times before, and as far as I can deduce, there is now value in waiting. I think it falls under that same category as "waiting till a spider finds you". Its an old argument a few people proposed that waiting until the spider found your site by itself would increase your rankings. This is not the case, and I just can't see how link popularity would do any good 'before the fact'.
