I have heard that if you buy a text link with target="_new" or target="_blank" in the HTML code, that it effects the quality of the text link, and its ability to help your web site's rankings or pass pagerank. Does anybody know or believe this to be true or false?

I have been buying text links for a while now, and can't see why these links wouldnt be just as legitimate as any others, but I just was wondering what other people have heard on this area.

That's the first time I've heard that in relation to target. Is it possible that the folks you're hearing this from are confusing it with the rel="nofollow" attribute?

I don't think they are confusing the tags, but some people just seem to have their own theories of what makes a text link good, and what makes a text link bad. If nobody else has any opinions on this, I think I will just stick with related content, pagerank, traffic, and maybe will check out the link popularity and alexa rankings as I always have when buying links.
