Link Hunting Companies

Should I think Twice About them?

I submitted my site to the obvious contenders like google, yahoo and msn manually. I have never heard of anyone here using anything else - though the University I went to used alta vista and I am aware of Askjeeves and Overture. Is there really any point once you got to the big guys bothering with all the other unheard of search engines. I think most of us here just go for google and type in the search term.

Also with linking. I can see you have to be content specific, and that it would be stupid to get loads of irrelevant links. I think my preferred method is to write to individual webmasters where they have compatible content - a few have written to me. However is there something I am missing about those companies that offer to do the links for you? My fear is - as I just read somewhere on here, that the links I would be offered would not be particuarly high quality or relevant.

Thanks,

Google, Yahoo, MSN all together have over 98% search engine market share in English language. However, if your customers are from non-english-speaking countries. That may be a quite different story.

It depends on the company. Nothing beats a positive word of mouth reference. There is a lot to fear, I agree.

As far as search engine submission, don't worry about it. The bots come crawling as soon as you obtain some links. Just get more.
