Link Exchange Service to Risky to Use?

Hi All. I want to know about a specific link exchange service and I wanted to know if it was risky to use. I can't list the name of the site here...

Will this be a red flag to google and get me kicked off of google. I already have 1000s of links pointing to me from 'real' link exchanges, would this harm my well established site?

THank you.

OK, let me phrase this different. I found a site on the net. It is a service that you sign up for and you are automatically linked from 1000s of sites in a directory format. In exchange you put this directory on your site. Will this get flagged by google? I don't want to ruin by PR of 6 / 7 or even worst get banned by google.

I know where you are coming from and it works a treat for now.

There is one guy who has made a site with 200k of pages for hotel serps and has the roatating links in his footer. I see him everywhere in every langauage.

So short term yes, long term you may get burned.

I was recently submitting to directories and noticed a fairly new directory with a PR8. It hardly had any links to it and was asking for $50 a link. After the last Google PR update, it was grey barred. So I am thinking the only way it got to a PR8 was to purchase 1000s of links, so my advice is to avoid this service.

Also, you want your linking to look natural. Meaning, if you get 1000 links in one month and none the next, Google will notice this as unnatural and drop your PR.
