Link Page Name

Non poison word names for links pages

A discussion recently in forum 3 (http://www.webmasterworld.com/forum3/20459.htm)has made me rethink the name of my links page.

Apparently the common name of /links/ or links.html isn't liked too much by some SEs.

So now I'm hunting for ideas as to what to rename my links page too.

I have one that's been named links.php for a long time and still carries nice PR.

I do, however, link to it from every page on the site. I think that could be a factor in the 'poison' thing.

I have noticed many 'links' pages getting PR0 lately.

I like 'resources' too, and that's what I use now...just to be on the safe side :)

I renamed mine resources.htm because I couldn't think of anything else.

I have also added a lot more text to each links page so they are not just long lists of links, but are more like content pages.

We sell health products on our site, and since a reciprocal link directory should always be of similar themes, ours is titled...

Not only is it descriptive, it might help if they decide to go after pages named "resources" instead of "links"... maybe you should title it after the theme of your links page?

I don't think I've used the term links in over 3 years. And, on the above pages I don't use the term links either. I usually refer to it as [Keyword Phrase] Resources and Websites of Interest

Mine's /links/index.shtml and it's fine. Has been for years. It's in my main menu which makes it linked from all my pages.

I suppose it depends on whether you have a single links page or many. I have a folder called

/directory/
this has an index page and then there are many sub page categories

/directory/website.htm

etc etc

All have PR5 with no problems

I just started a links exchange for my site and named it links/links.html. Doesn't seem to be a problem. Just been boosted to PR 4 after update. BUT I leaked some of my Home Page PR to it... it dropped a point.

Anyone know where I can seel up this leak in link exchanging?

In a moment of weakness I changed the name of a links.html page to something else, but I've since changed it back. If Google is really discounting the value of links from links pages, it's Google that has a problem, not me.

As jsnow mentioned if you have enough PR set up your links as a directory and then have the links pages named arts.htm, computers.htm, web.htm...

Non-typical "links" names seem to attrack a lot of link partners for me due to all the paranoia with G discounting "links" pages.

I would suggest going to the link I provided in the first post of this thread before saying it's Google that has the problem or that there is no problem with links.html or /links/ as a link page name.

Mine is "{keyword} Web Guide"

Started out as "{keyword} Links", before pagerank even existed.

Then became "{keyword} Resources".

Pages are currently at the same pagerank (5) on the main/primary pages of the guide as I was when using "resources".

I use "friend of" for my graphical based links and "keyword" resources for my main business site.....

I use a directory style for my links, which generally are shopping focused.

/shopdir/index.html
/shopdir/widgets.html
/shopdir/toggles.html
..etc.

Works well. Over time my partners have valuable links on on-topic pages that are somewhat optimised for their terms. *shrug* Makes the link a more attractive proposition to partners I think... when I ever get off my butt and go looking for them.

I wouldn't have the word 'links' there anywhere on page except that it's worthwhile to help potential link partners find you.. so it is mentioned once in a box with 'link exchange request'.

Interesting thread. I recently re-named my link page to web-directory.html Still waiting for the PR to get restored, but it seems a suitable name. My link references are simply called Directory.
