are one way links really better then reciprocal?

Or can you milk more benefit by doing a reciprocal

I have a question about getting the most out of a link.

If site A offers me a one way link with the anchor "Keyword1"

Can I increase the benefit of this link by doing a reciprocal link to the page(the one linking to me) with the same anchor text?
There by driving relevancy for "keyword1" to SiteA and hopefully magnifying the effect of the link to my site?

Or would the benefit of the link be diminished because it is not a one way link anymore?

Any ideas?

KevinC - one way links count alot more then swapping links.

One-way deep links are nice.

so you really think the benifit is greater from a one way link - then from a page that has more relevancy for the keyword you are targeting?

I'm not talking about PR either cause I'm not all that concerned with that - just the actual boost in the serps I may get for the keyword

than from a page that has more relevancy for the keyword you are targeting?

That's different. For some people a link is a link. For others, like me, a link is more than just a link. Speaking for myself, I prefer a link from a relevant website.

If we all agree a link with good anchor text helps pass relevancy for this keyword through the link.

It just seems logical that if the site is already relevant for the desired term then this would amplify the effect.

IMHO this is taking place - if I'm wrong I'm sure it will play a big part in the future.

Although this is a little different then my original question about one way links being better then reciprocal.

Is there any evidence that one way link would be better than reciprocal links?

Well, one obvious downfall of a reciprocal link has to a one way link is this:

If you have a page that links to a bunch more of your own internal pages you are sharing the wealth of PR with those pages which is good because they are your pages.

But, if on this same page you have a bunch of reciprocal links (links to pages that are not your own) then you are dividing the wealth among more pages, some of which are not your own.

So, reciprocal links take away from any internal PR you may be sharing with your own website(s).

A good one-way link strategy if you have at least two sites is to swap with someone else with 2 plus sites by swaping to opposite pages. You link to their site 'B' while they link to your site "A'. Both linking partners get a one-way out of the deal.
