Prior to this date, there had been nearly a 1-to-1 correspondence between reported clicks and landing page hits in my web logs. ie. it looked like I was only being charged for germane clicks.
Well, something different happened on 4/3.
One of my campaigns shows a 25% increase in clicks over last Monday. My web logs only saw 80% of those people (I know, this isn't *too* far off). Another campaign had clicks DOUBLE on Monday. A full 50% of those "surfers" never hit my landing page. A 50% discrepancy has me concerned. I've never seen that with overture, google, or even msn prior to Monday.
Anyone else seeing discrepancies?
Being charged for 1000 clicks...and only seeing 500 people hit your site...it's concerning. Based on prior weeks' data...I should've seen ~950 of those people in my logs.
I do monitor my web sites performance through custom apps. I had no down-time on Monday.
Hopefully it was just a one day fluke. Hopefully.
Also, I am in competitive industries - industries where click fraud would probably be more likely.
After reading your post, I decided to double-check my calcuations - I screwed something up the first time through. This is what happens when one stops drinking coffee cold-turkey, apparently. :)
Anyways...after double-checking....BOTH campaigns have the clicks and impressions doubled on Monday....not just the one campaign. So it appears I was double-charged for both campaigns on 4/3. CTR is totally normal.
Anyone else seeing doubled impression and doubled clicks on 4/3?
