Slow loading site

What is making it so slow?

Hello,

I've just designed a site which is unfortunately really slow in loading on every system I've tested it on, every platform. It's built in tables in Dreamweaver based on my template also created in DW. The images are perhaps too big? I can optimize them a bit more but is there anything other than the images which could be slowing it down?

Thanks so much!

I just visited your site and it took about 4 minutes to load! I am connected on a DSL line so speed is not an issue there. I did notice a few long waits for images to load where your hosting service, GoDaddy, was not sending any data. I ran a trace by using visual traceroute and it came up clean. This would seem to indicate that your GoDaddy server was busy serving someone else instead of me and left me waiting. I'd consider trying a new hosting service or ask GoDaddy if they can move your site to another one of their servers and see if that helps. I'd start by calling their tech support on the phone, explain the problem and see what they suggest.

Yikes! Thanks so much for the tip and for taking the time to try to track down the problem...it clearly is a huge problem. I've been using Go Daddy for a number of sites and it's always been fine. Grrrrr.

Do you have an inexpensive hosting service you like?

Lvanoff,

As you know by now you are not supposed to drop URL's in WW. Sticky the moderator and ask that they be removed if you can no longer edit them.

I also have DSL and it took awhile to load your index page.

One thing I noticed is that all your small photos were in the 30 & 40 kb range. If I were you I would use a good compressing program and reduce those down to no more than 5 k each. Especially at that size that's way too big a file.

Also have a look at the banner at the top and on the left corner. Each of those could be reduced quite a bit further but use a good program.

Sorry about the url...I thought it was ok when you are asking for someone to view your site for a problem. Thanks.

Thanks for looking at it...I will compress the images further. Also, I called Go Daddy who reports they have had speed issues all week that they can't figure out in spots all around the country...they are baffled and apologetic. Great. I checked my other Go Daddy sites and they are all slow. So I think it is a combination of the images being too big and the host.

Thanks very much for taking a look...I appreciate it!

I agree with the suggest to shrink your images, but the total of the images was only about 700K and there's no way that it should take that long to load so little data.

I would suggest that you contact GoDaddy first before moving to another host. I've dealt with their tech support and found them to be helpful and responsive. I will sticky you another hosting suggestion too.

Yes, Go Daddy says they are very aware of the problem and trying to fix it now. Thanks.
