Virtual Dedicated Server (VDS) Technology

Better than standard shared hosting or waste of money?

Does it affect an 'average' person - who doesn't do anything too technical - whether their site is hosted on a Virtual Dedicated Server or a normal shared server?

Bearing in mind that I won't be doing anything remarkably complex and the only scripts I'll be installing are Amazon web services, PHPAdsNews etc. does it really matter if I have all that functionality?

Will the server be faster? Will it be better in terms of the search engines because, from what I understand, VDS is more like dedicated hosting than shared hosting and so there will be less chances of being in a 'bad neighborhood' etc.?

Finally, how good are Jumpline in general? Support etc.

Thanks :)

[edit reason] Please see charter and TOS - no mention of specific hosts please. Thanks. [/edit]

[edit reason] WebmasterWorld does not do host recommendations. [/edit]

I've got a cheap dedicated server from one host company and I've got a VPS/VDS from another and the downtime from the VPS/VDS is 10 times that of the cheap dedicated.
VPS/VDS seems to be relatively new technology (the software) and it may become a better option when it matures a bit. But my point is that there are quite a few companies that have amazingly cheap dedicated server deals, and you might want to consider that as an option.
