aol blocks email port 25

Now then...Who would like to start telling 30 million aol subscribers their email client won't send anymore?

"America Online Inc. will no longer accept outgoing connections on port 25 through third party mail programs."

"Send third party e-mail through port 587. This port requires you to authenticate and may require a change to your email client settings. Note, the server you are connecting to must support this configuration. If you are trying to get your AOL e-mail visit Keyword Open Mail Access, all others contact your server administrator for further support on this configuration."

Their client can still send email -- it just has to pass through AOL's SMTP servers. A lot of other ISPs do this too, to reduce outgoing spam.

I know.

But the real beauty of it all is that aol could have simply told it's members. Now, millions of users are wondering why their client doesn't work thus giving reason to try that new isp for half price.

I love it when mega corporations lose millions of dollars in a simple mistake.
