Hello,

I see allot of those free ringtone sites where you can signup just by handing out your mobile number and the ringtone is delivered automatically to your cellphone, and in exchange you are signed up for a $7-$10 per month plan which is how the webmaster makes his money.

I know that you need a Premium SMS number which is how you reverse bill the customer (the bill goes on their wireless bill), but I have no idea how to get started in this business.

I would love to startup my own Jamster type site, but I have no idea how to automate the process, how to properly setup premium sms...etc. And their isn't must help available out there, so I'm left in the dark.

Any help?

I have also been searching for info on this - if anyone has any please tell!

Also don't you need licences \ permission from artist to sell ringtones or is there one big database you can combine into your own site to fetch the tones from?

Or is it more trouble than its actually worth?

First thing..
before you figure out the technology for delivering ringtones automatically you need to figure out your base cost factors for participating in this business...

Here's a link that highlights the licensing process associated with ringtones (people are creating these and they fall under creative licensing agreements)..

Not too likely you are going to find a "free" database somewhere ...

Next, as to the SMS delivery technology...try this resource (it will get you started on understanding the implications of getting into this extremely competitive 3+ billion $ a year business):
