Pleae help! Completely confused.

Website down with wired problem

I am not a technical person but now confused by my domain registrar and web hsoting company.

1. I can't send out email with 553:domainname server does not exist returned by outlook express yesterday.

2. I tried to use web hosting company's webmail yesterday, it can't send out email with error:

Error sending message:
MAIL first (#5.5.1)

3. Today, I even found my website down.

I contacted my web host, they said it is due to

domain name is not resolving to your account on our servers

The web host also said when they look into whois database, they saw our domain name present and registered, and pointing to their server correctly.

They said they can confirm that their server has no problem, and therefore it is a DNS root level problem. (I don't know what it is)

I am also asking the domain registrar to look into the issue without getting reply.

Anyone knows what's the problem? and how can I solve it?

Please advise.

First, Welcome to Webmaster World!

About your problem, how long has it been since you registered your domain name? Also, how long has it been since you began hosting this domain with the current host? If either answer is less than a few days, you may be seeing the normal propagation period (which is supposed to take about five minutes these days, but in practice, I've rarely seen it take less than at least 24 hours.)

If you've had the domain for awhile and it's been with the same host, and you haven't made any changes to your domain settings, and assuming things have been working fine up until now, then your best bet will be to contact your domain registrar.

It is registerd a long time ago.

The problem is fixed, and domain registrar said because we did not update the whois database information after we moved office.

I think it is no good to customers. I paid them to register a domain name and they receive money. They shouldn't take my domain off due to data is not updated. For a business moved to a new location, who will remember updating whois database?

I believe we will transfer all domains to another registrar.

The terms and conditions of registering a domain normally state that all contact details must be accurate or you risk the domain being suspended.

I believe that for .com's etc that this is down to ICANN rules.

It's a good point though, that when a business moves they should remember to update the whois.

You can also find a good host that sends a reminder. Mine sends out messages about 5 months in advance of renewal date. That's a bit annoying to be reminded so early but at least you'll have no excuse to forget.
