I have a web site that relies heavily on SSI includes. All but one of the includes is a simple text file. The one exception is a small perl cgi script that generates a calendar.

The problem I'm having is that starting this weekend the main page stops loading when apache hits one of three include statements. I have not modified the site in weeks.

There are no errors in my apache error log. When I go to my URL it loads up to that particular include and just stops. On my browser, if I "view source" I can see it stopped on one of the includes.

This problem is "include" related because if I remove any of the three affected includes the page loads until it hits the next include.

This is a hosted account so I only have access to my apache log file for my domain. Could this be a system-wide problem and not something specific to my site? I didn't modify my site and I don't see any error messages in my log.

SOunds like your host's problem.

Easiest way to test this is to create a test html page with a brief header and footer surrounding the simplest ssi you can think of. If it breaks on that, call your webhost.

Some of the other includes on the page do work but I'll try your suggestion right now.

Problem solved... It turns out that all the include ststements that were written with the "include file" syntax broke and the includes written with "include virtual" did not break. I still can't figure out why this would break all of the sudden. All is working now.

It does sound like a problem caused by your host upgrading or patching software.

I had a similar problem when an autoresponder script broke after a patch was applied to my vs.
