By consensus...we may be able to narrow that down.
What do you use as a title?
This is what is lacking with some of our approach in the optimization business. There is no cohesiveness in form, structure, or approach. I hope this changes soon.
True, I'm a darn fine spammer, but isn't there something we as professionals can use as a professional title that is cohesive with the industry?
traffic and hits are best
get more traffic, increase traffic, website hits etc.
avoid; optimisation (and z version), placement, seo,
as uninformed people don't know what they mean at all and wouldn't search on them.
for most non seo types the whole -
web/internet/searchengines thing all merges into one and i know many people with websites who for example don't know the difference between search engines and directories,
if you are targeting non seo professionals then don't use seo terms, read articles about the internet in newspapers, i think that would be a good source of the kind of terms to target.
The many versions of job titles I've heard along the way are:
Search Engine Optimization Specialist
Search Engine Marketing Consultant
Search Engine Positioning Services
Search Engine Ranking Services
Search Engine Marketing Services
Etc. etc. etc.
I'm sure there's a whole other avenue of internet marketing titles, and there should be something more specific for PPC services job titles.
There are more titles for "what" we do than the job title itself. ;)
I'm using Search Engine Marketing Consultant at the moment for contract work, seen it around here and there. I know there's another thread here about job titles that may be of help, you might want to search for it.
. Yes, the "duh" look means you can call yourself anything and they still don't understand what search engine marketing is.
Exactly WebRookie - people still don't know what you mean. Therefore, they don't know what to look for when searching the engines for help in SEO. Aren't we as SEO specialists concerned with "being found" ???
Isn't that what we are actually marketing? We centralize and target other folk's industries to get the best results. Yet, the general public has no clue how to find "us" because they don't know what to call us.
If they even understand, vaguely, what we do they think we are just spam experts.
I wish we had a better answer but I think this is it for now.
Has fit perfectly up until last year. (the year of the big chill).
>Search Engine Positioning Services
Position yourself on the overture, AdWords, PositionTech, and Fast advertising pages and click on "submit".
>Search Engine Marketing
I'm not marketing a search engine, I'm promoting a site.
I think the only accurate assesment of todays seo industry is summed up best by the good old generic:
Search Engine Promotion
Whatever you pick - I think we have it covered.
That was my point exactly ggrot. Hardly anyone knows what we are. When they do know, they don't want to pay unless they get results. That isn't how national magazines sell advertising. You pay $5000+ in advance and wait 12-16 weeks for the magazine to come out. You don't pay for results. You pay for the ad. We are in the same type scenario. But......folks that want search engine placement have no idea what we are or what we do. Is that our fault? Should we have a collective group to determine a focus here?
I know that MarketingSherpa put together a shpeal that didn't do service to the good groups. How hard would it be to put together something that really represents the SEO industry?
