If you mean the icon in the address bar .. create one, I think I used Microangelo and found it easy to use ..
Then place the file into your root directory with the name
favicon.ico
Once completed get your pages to tell the browser where it is. In your meta tags, between the <HEAD> and </HEAD> tags put something like <LINK REL="SHORTCUT ICON" HREF="favicon.ico">

Here you download a plugin for photoshop that will allow you to create a .ico file:

1. There is no reason the icon has to be in the root or indeed called 'favicon'. Mine is in images folder with every other image. As long as it ends with .ico it's fine.
2. You don't need an icon creating program to create a .ico file, I used a normal image editor. Just save it as a .ico. However, icon programs create better icons as they are multilayered so they work better in different situations.
