Do they?
If so, and they never configured a website to respond to www.abcd.com, and your website is the default website on the server, then that would explain it.
If this is supposed to be a shared server, then they should know enough to disable the default website. Or, alternatively, put a lone, default html page on the default site that says "No web server is configured at this address."
It is possible for a firewall router to route traffic to different servers based upon the port number. So you can't be 100% sure that the services are on the same physical server. However, if they know enough to do that, I would then have to wonder why they don't simply use two different IP addresses.
This can't be a large hosting company. Do you know the people that run it? What you've said indicates that they have everything running on one physical server. It also indicates that you are their first or one of their first customers.
This is all a lot of conjecture on my part. Only the hosting company would know for sure. I guess I would start out by asking them the same basic question you originally posted here and see how they respond.
