So, first of all, PLEASE don't let the title of this letter scare you. I am not a spammer, I make no money from spamming, I have no plans to start spamming at any point in the future, and in the case that you've confused one kind of spam for the other, I'm even a vegetarian.
I run a small ecommerce website that requires users to register with their email before making any purchases. This is a fairly routine process; many other sites require a similar action before gaining full access.
We send out email confirmations to users, with a link they can click on to register. However, there's a problem with this process: despite the fact that the email is quite legitimiate, and something that the users obviously want and need to read, both Yahoo and Hotmail send this email directly to the Spam/Bulk folder.
Is there a way of circumventing this? We run a legitimate business and have a very strict privacy policy about unsolicited emails, so it's pretty hard to confuse our type of activity with spam. Has anyone else found a solution to this and found a way around it? If so, PLEASE let me know. I would love to send our emails straight to users' inboxes, where they belong.
To alert your less experienced users, include a rather prominent and friendly notice/reminder for registrants to check their bulk folder in the event the confirmation mail is not in their in-box.
