i have to build an online catalog for my company's site, and i'm fairly sure that there has to be an easier way (an automated way) to dump images / text into a folder and have it generate the information. Easier than designing and breaking apart and coding each individual element on each page.

i'm posting here because i'm not sure if the involved script(s) would be js or css or asp or what. also, i cannot use php but i believe anyhing else would be okay with the it department.

[off topic: they hired me as a designer, but i have since been asked to program the site, and i'm learning as i go. this is something i don't know how to do, so i would appreciate any help or direction you can give.]

It sounds as if you need a content management system, probably one designed for an e-commerce site. Are you looking to sell objects online?

You mention that you can't use PHP. What server-side technologies are available to you? Do you have ASP? How about a database?

no we are not selling online. the business doesn't sell retail. so really the catalog is solely for customers to search, find what they need and make sure it meets their specs.

the current website only has pdfs of the catalogs available for download. but they now want a catalog-like area online.

yes we can use asp. i have used that quite a lot, actually.
