I've read an interesting article about the best length of the URL for SEO. Just search G for 'url seo length' and click on the first result to find the article. The author claims that the best length for an url is between 21 and 30 characters, INCLUDING the [www....] part of the url. The shortest domain name I own has already 19 characters (http://www.#*$!xx.nu) which leaves me only 11 characters for the subdirs ... which is clearly not enough. I can extend this by excluding the www. part of the url and then I have 15 characters ... which is feasable but still not enough to build a site with lots of subdirs.
I noticed though that the longer the keyword I was searching for in G the longer the URL of the sites in the SERPs were. The results for the keyword 'length' gives me SERPs with shorter URLs than for the keyword 'length url'.
Personally I think the results of the article are not thrustworthy, but then again what is the best length of an URL?
