I'm used to Windows 2000, but recently got a laptop with XP Home on it, which seems to have a feature that allows you to specify certain actions to be taken automatically when a CD, DVD, or other types of removable media are inserted or connected.

The problem is that, whenever I put in a DVD, the computer starts playing it automatically in some really inefficient and klunky player. I'd prefer for nothing to happen when I put the disk in the drive - I'll start playing it manually if and when I'm ready. I did not set this preference myself; it was already set that way when I got the computer.

So, where can I find wherever it is in XP Home that these types of preferences are stored? I can't seem to find them anywhere.

Thanks,

Matthew

Hey Matt,

Go to "My Computer", then right-click -> Properties on the drive you want. There will be a "AutoPlay" tab. That's where you can select your actions.
