Does a DDOS attack affect all sites on a shared server?

Or just a specific site? or even a specific page?

Does a DDOS attack (or a slashdot effect) bring down a whole server (and all sites on it), or does it just affect a specific site? Or does it even just affect a specific page?

Most such attacks will take down at least the server in question. More severe attacks can do a lot more damage.

It depends on the type, sometimes it will only affect one IP or a group of IPs and sites on other IPs will be fine.

DDoS and /. will bring down the whole server (if effective) because it is the server responding to requests, not the site.
