Does anyone run a "celebrity" site

If so, how does it do?

The other day I had the idea to put together a site devoted to a particular celebrity who happens to be a bit controversial.

I see sites for pop stars, movie stars, and so on, and wonder how they fare in terms of advertising revenues.

If I were going to pursue this, I'd have to do research on the person for the various stages of this person's life and professional career.

Any suggestions or warnings?

I have two.
The only earnings I have from them is a few bucks from amazon CD sales.
Tried AdSense but it performed too bad.

You need A LOT of visits - 20.000 gives you maybe 20-30 bucks a day.

A celebrity could mean anything, from the latest reality-show entrant to the Queen. And your results will depend hugely on your star, not just how long they last in the limelight but also how much they produce that can be sold. Pick your celebrity carefully, otherwise they could be yesterday's news by the time you launch your site.

Some celebrities are like clockwork...they need intense exposure..a few times a year...either thru a new movie or some sort of sorted controversy...to maintain their hold in the public eye and their lifestyles...others are completely unreliable for the type of adsense type traffic one may want to generate..

Yes..pick your celebrity carefully...it's all about timing to the market hype...

Thanks for the replies.

This particular "celebrity" is a political figure who's been around for some time, and who will continue to be around for some time.

It sounds like the site may not be worth it. 20,000 visitors a day is hard to achieve, and 20 to 30 dollars a day is small-time (for me, anyway).

Time to do some more research.

dickbaker - As soon you offer info/pictures/software or other for free, you need A LOT of visits because the visitor is looking for something for free, thats why you need a HUGE amount of traffic.

One thing, a website is not always about money.

Thanks, Zeus. Right now, if it's not about money, I'm just not interested.

I have another site that consumes just about all of my waking time.
