its not quite website related, but it is preventing me from working on my site. Whenever I try ctrl alt delete to view my applications and processes, it says my access has been prevented by an administrator. It never used to - is this a virus? I'm a home user so don't have an administrator - any idea how to unlock this?
I had major nightmares with this. Couldn't download files, change permissions, on and on . . . You're best off having someone handy at systems look at it.
A way to tell:
Select start->run
type regedit -> press enter
From the edit menu select Find
Type Symantec and press enter
Keep searching the registry (Find again) and just LOOK at all the entries. DO NOT CHANGE ANYTHING OR DELETE. Just look. It's likely you'll come to a key that is not plain text or hex - that is, not a series of letters or numbers. If you see any Symantec entries with wierd unintelligible characters, this is a corrupted registry entry.
I tried all the tools on the Symantec site for this, including their "method" of fixing the registry, and tried system restores, all to no avail. My solution was to reformat the HD and reinstall without Norton, and use a different AV solution.
13 months without Norton, without a single problem so far.
